United Negro College Fund (UNCF), headquartered around Fairfax, Virginia is an American benevolent organization by owning a mission of raising college tuition money for African-American students and also when general scholarship funds for Historically Black colleges and universities. A UNCF was incorporated in April 25, 1944 by Frederick D. Patterson, president of what is now Tuskegee University, Mary McLeod Bethune, and others.
Motto
Since 1972, a UNCF motto has been "A mind is a terrible thing to waste," & has be one of a supplementary widely recognized shibboleth around advertising history. A catchword has been utilized inside award-winning UNCF ad campaigns & was created by Woods Long of the advertising professional Young & Rubicam.
It was it used to be that famously flubbed by former U.S. Vice President Dan Quayle, who attempted to paraphrase it as "What a waste it is to lose one's mind. Or not to have a mind is being very wasteful. How true that is."
